MoneyProject Meeting Synopsis: October 13th 2009 meeting
I am finally getting around to this synopsis. On October 13th we had a mellow meeting with great food.
-We discussed meeting regularly (every 4-6 weeks) to develop our discussion about what we think about the ideas and content that are coming up in the work, how we progress in terms of what shape the project takes, and to further develop our group structure and process. As well much discussion needs yet to happen on distribution.
- we agreed to rotate meeting facilitators. Nancy facilitated this meeting, and suggested that the facilitator organize the next meeting.
-We agreed to do more house screenings as the desire comes up. The intimate house setting seems to be a good one for this project and several people expressed a desire to do this type of screening with people they know.
-We brought up the idea of doing a screening at Evangeline’s but didn’t come to a decision about this one way or the other. We decided to think about it some more, how it could be done etc.
-We discussed editing: some projects need more editing. Those of us who have access to editing equipment need to make ourselves available to those who want to continue to work on their pieces. Some of us are eager to make new pieces as well.
-The conversation about distribution was continued: we are still wary about the works circulating in spaces that we are not aware of due to some sensitive content. We decided that dvds could be made but we will keep track of how many copies exist and where they go, in what contexts they are being shown, and when they will be returned.
-On the question of new members we decided that we would bring people into the project from our personal connections, from home screenings and the communities in which we work and live, people with whom we are in discussion with. Also, Kim should make herself available to meet with new people individually to discuss the project and how it is working so far.
-On the question of the web: individuals can put their works on the web, but not the work of others.
-We are still working on the question of signed consent forms, which are a necessity.
-We also decided that all works should be 10 minutes.
-As new works are produced we can change up the program.
-We do want to connect to groups internationally where possible to broaden the scope of the discussion.
-What we didn’t discuss yet:
1) How the MoneyProject will raise the small amount of funds needed to cover expenses of screenings and production.
2)The possibility of showing some part of the project in BH Yael’s class on Politics and Media, at Ontario College of Art and Design in the Spring.
